From 15 to 19 December 2014, an inter-regional research and practice seminar “Current Issues of the Russian Federation Museum Fund Preservation” was held by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation at the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre of the State Hermitage Museum.
The event was attended by representatives of a large number of museums of the North-Western Federal District: from federal museums, such as the State Hermitage Museum and the State Russian Museum, to municipal and industrial museums.
During the working process, various aspects of the museum storage and preservation procedures were considered. Representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation addressed the participants of the seminar. They covered basic regulatory principles based on which the control of the Russian museum fund preservation shall be exercised. The most difficult enforcement issues in the area of acquisition of museum funds and documentation of incomings were also covered.
The employees of the State Hermitage Museum took a special part in the seminar by sharing their experience in the use of modern technologies in the field of museum security and storage, as well as the procedure of application of the Federal Law # 44-FZ “On the Contract System in the Procurement”. These speeches generated much interest as containing direct practical recommendations.
Demonstration of the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre depository and visiting of the exhibitions open in the main complex of the State Hermitage Museum, the General Staff Building and the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory Museum formed an integral part of the seminar. Judging by the feedback from the seminar participants, it was a kind of a practical part perfectly illustrating much of what was said in the speeches.
