The conference "Personalities from Peter the Great’s Time" is organized annually by the "Menshikov Palace" department of the State Hermitage since 1998. Participants of the conference are scholars and researches from the State Hermitage and from other museums and research centers of Saint Petersburg, Moscow, and other cities of the Russian Federation as well as specialists from France, Estonia, Sweden.
Subjects of the reports that are presented at the conference cover different aspects of activities of Peter the Great, A. Menshikov and other outstanding figures of the time. Iconography of the tsar Peter I and his contemporaries as well as questions of internal and external politics of Russia during this epoch are also under consideration. Many works of art and archive documents which were used by speakers in their research are introduced to the specialists for the first time.
The materials of the scientific conference are regularly published in the "Transactions of the State Hermitage " series.
